FMA Annual Meeting & Reception
June 11, 2014
Members of the Fort Meade Alliance gathered for the 2014 Annual Meeting to install new board members, salute retiring directors, award a scholarship and celebrate a year that included multiple landmark developments.
FMA members advanced several key initiatives during the year, said President Deon Viergutz. Those included participating in the garrison's Community Health Promotion Council, partnering with Fort Meade leadership to implement the Healthy Base Initiative, and advancing the FMA's plan to build a Resiliency Center on Fort Meade. The FMA Foundation held its first official fundraiser - a Bull Roast and Casino Night that raised more than $14,000. The Foundation's fundraising efforts also benefited greatly from the Praxis Engineering Golf Outing which raised $35,000, and the Baltimore Orioles' online jersey auction which raised another $17,000.
During the year, the FMA furthered its efforts to fuel children's interest in STEM education, created a new Meade Business Connect series, expanded advocacy outreach to all levels of government, created the 6th edition of the Destination Fort Meade Guide and hosted several outstanding events, including the FMA 10-year anniversary party, the FMA Industry Day and the "State of Fort Meade" address by Garrison Commander Col.
