The Fort Meade Alliance Annual Meeting & Reception, which was attended by nearly 200 guests on June 16, 2010, highlighted a year of success including the addition of 40 new members since January, sold-out events such as the NSA luncheon in December 2009 and the Fort Meade Regional Minority and Small Business Government Contracting IT Forum held in May 2010, the successful fundraising effort for the Fort George G. Meade Wounded Warriors in Transition that raised more than $135,000 to outfit the new Soldier and Family Activity Center, as well as our continued partnership with the installation, government agencies, state and local delegation and the overall Fort Meade community.
The Fort Meade Alliance also received a proclamation from Gov. Martin O'Malley declaring June 16, 2010 Fort Meade Alliance Day. Asuntha Chiang-Smith, executive director of the state's BRAC Subcabinet, presented the honor.
The Alliance also recognized two FMA individuals for their service to the organization. COL (Ret) R. Gary Dinsick, who is stepping down as a member of the FMA board of directors when his term expires at the end of this month, received a certificate of appreciation for his work on the board including his insight and understanding of BRAC early in the 2005 BRAC process. Katherine Sanft of Omni Resource Inc., which joined the Alliance in January, was also recognized for her willingness to assist at FMA events and her continued efforts to attract new members.
Fort Meade Installation Commander COL Daniel L. Thomas was the guest speaker. He spoke to the crowd about the significant and exciting changes that are happening on the base and to the region as a whole. — from the arrival of the Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Media Activity and DoD Adjudications and the stand up of the new U.S. Cyber Command to the expansion of the National Security Agency, FGGM's largest tenant.
