In March 2010, Federal government employees, military personnel and industry contractors got an in-depth glimpse of the region at the 2nd Destination Fort Meade Relocation
Fair. This event came on the heels of the first Relocation Fair in June 2009. Its success solidified the need for even more of these events to share information about the Fort Meade region and Maryland with those who are considering the move. Organizers, led by the Fort Meade Alliance in conjunction with the Fort Meade Regional Partnership, are planning a third Relocation Fair in fall 2010.
The most recent fair, an all-day event at DISA headquarters in Northern Virginia on March 3, attracted nearly 1,000 attendees, who were looking for more information about the Fort Meade region.
Nearly 50 exhibitors were represented ranging from real estate, transportation, education and employment, as well as state and county government. DISA employees specifically requested exhibitors from those four business sectors.
Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions at two different informational breakout sessions focused on housing and transportation. Both sessions, which ran throughout the day, were standing room only at times.
Home Buying in Maryland: What you should know before purchasing a home, was presented by Barbara Schmitt, lender relations manager for the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD).
Gerald R. Cichy, BRAC Coordinator for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), presented Transportation Alternatives to Fort Meade: Time & Cost Saving Options for Commuters. Ben Cohen of the BWI Business Partnership assisted with the session.
