First Destination Fort Meade Relocation Fair

The Fort Meade Alliance, on behalf of the Fort Meade Partnership, hosted a day-long Destination Fort Meade Relocation Fair for employees and families whose jobs will shift to Fort George G. Meade in the coming years as a result of BRAC 2005. Destination Fort Meade took place on June 10, 2009 at the Hilton Alexandria, attracting over 500 government employees, contractors, and their spouses, associated with the three organizations relocating to Fort Meade – Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Defense Media Publications (DMA), and the DoD Adjudication and Office of Hearing and Appeals Offices.

“By every measure, this relocation fair was a success,” said Rosemary Budd, incoming president of the Fort Meade Alliance at the time. “We achieved our goal of providing comprehensive information about the excellent quality of life that new residents of the Fort Meade region can expect, while connecting one-on-one to answer questions from attendees. I am pleased that the Fort Meade Alliance continues to fulfill its role in furthering the Fort Meade mission and needs of the region.”

The Destination Fort Meade Relocation Fair included more than 60+ informational exhibits representing the State of Maryland and broad-service businesses located in the Fort Meade area covering housing, utilities, education, transportation, medical care, employment, banking/financial institutions, and senior care.

Interactive Q&A breakout sessions throughout the day covered topics such as transportation, housing, education, employment, and relocation. Each attendee also received a BRAC Welcome and Relocation Guide containing a comprehensive look at living and working in the Fort Meade region.

The format of this fair was planned with input from the relocating agencies and organizations on the specific areas of interest of their relocating employees.

Feedback from attendees included:

  • “This is exactly the information I was looking for.”

  • “Thanks to the exhibitors from Maryland by coming en mass to our backyard.”
  • “Our employees now have key information to assist in their decision making.”
  • “I am impressed with the diversity and many opportunities offered in the Fort Meade area.”
