Wounded Warriors Soldier and Family Assistance Center

Part of the Fort Meade Alliance’s mission is to help provide for the Fort George G. Meade soldiers and their families.  We created the Wounded Warriors Committee to do just that, specifically assisting the FGGM Wounded Warriors Transition Unit. This unit has more than 150 wounded warriors from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware and is expected to double in the next several years.

The Alliance’s initial involvement started by providing snacks to the unit on a monthly basis for their temporary Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) located in the Army Community Services building. The snacks are still being delivered each month.

It was that action that led the Fort Meade Alliance to work with the installation to lead the community in raising the funds necessary to outfit the new SFAC built on the base.

The Fort Meade Alliance, in partnership with the USO of Metropolitan Washington, began the successful fundraising effort in March 2010 and raised over $135,000 for the cause. The new SFAC opened in November 2010.

The Fort Meade Alliance is dedicated to supporting our local soldiers as much as they have demonstrated their dedication to protecting the United States of America and defending all of us. We thank them for their sacrifice and service to our nation.
