Fort Meade Alliance Appoints New Board Members

The Fort Meade Alliance (FMA) has appointed four new members to its Board of Directors effective Nov. 12, 2015.

New Board members include Robert Hannon, President and CEO of Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation; Jennifer Smith, Director of Operations and Site Executive for Raytheon’s Fort Meade Operations; Larry Twele, CEO of Howard County Economic Development Authority and Anne Wagner, President and CEO of WaveStrike.

“Anne, Jenny, Larry and Bob are passionate about the FMA mission and we are excited to add them to the Board of Directors,” said FMA President Steve Tiller. “They are proven leaders whose expertise and enthusiasm will strengthen our organization.”

Hannon is an experienced economic development executive who was appointed in late 2014 by Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh to lead AAEDC for the second time. He previously served as head of AAEDC from 2007 to 2013. In this role, he works to strengthen the county’s business climate in order to attract and retain businesses and create jobs. During his time away from AAEDC, Hannon was project manager for joint task that worked to solidify Maryland’s Baltimore-Washington corridor as the global center for cyber industry development. In this role, he developed a strategic plan to leverage the region’s government, educational and business resources to nurture the growth of the region’s cyber industry. Hannon has been involved with the FMA for several years, and he previously served on the Board during his first stint with AAEDC.

Smith serves as Site Executive for Raytheon’s Fort Meade Operations business which specializes in full-spectrum cyber operations development and support and large-scale cloud analytics development. She has served in a variety of leadership roles with Raytheon including Engineering Director and Product Line Director. Smith has been very active in FMA activities and she also volunteers her time to support regional education and workforce initiatives, including serving as the AFCEA Central Maryland Valentine’s Gala chair, which has raised more than $150,000 for STEM scholarships during her 3-year tenure. She has also served on the board of the Independent College Fund of Maryland.

Twele, CEO of the HCEDA, is a seasoned economic development professional with a track record of success in business development, business retention, workforce development and tourism. Before joining HCEDA, he was the Director of the Carroll County Department of Economic Development for six years. He also spent seven years with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, where he held several positions, including managing the statewide regional office system. He also spent seven years in management in a Fortune Global 500 manufacturing firm and three years as a manager of a small business.

As President and CEO of WaveStrike, Wagner applies the lessons learned throughout her career to build and lead a team that provides software engineering services to the Department of Defense and intelligence community. The company provides technology solutions in the areas of cloud computing, big data analytics and cybersecurity. An active FMA member for several years, Wagner participated in FMA organized economic roundtable discussions for Senator Ben Cardin and the Federal Reserve Bank. She also serves on the Board of AFCEA Central Maryland.  She was recently named to the EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women™ Class of 2015.
