The Fort Meade Alliance’s Career Chats are in full swing for the fall semester. This initiative brings representatives from FMA member companies into high schools and colleges in the Fort Meade region, allowing students to talk with a wide variety of industry professionals about their career paths and their organizations. Our most recent volunteers came from RealmOne and AT&T Corp.

On December 4th, RealmOne Senior Director of Technology Strategy Ben Gould, Senior Director of Technology Portfolio Janelle Pasch, and Technical Director of R&D Megan Mercer joined University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) students to discuss technical career paths. Panelists shared what a typical day looks like in their roles and offered guidance on navigating early career decisions, networking effectively, and securing opportunities within the industry.

Earlier in November, AT&T’s Rachel Cangelosi, Candace Reigel, and Michael Slaughter gathered at UMBC for a panel discussion moderated by AT&T Senior Program Manager and FMA Education & Workforce Committee Member Joe Samek. Panelists spoke with students about their career paths, discussed career coaching and mentoring opportunities, and gave tips for how students can break into the industry.

“It is such a pleasure to meet with the UMBC students,” said AT&T’s Joe Samek. “They were lively, inquisitive and clearly focused on their futures. We really enjoy doing this to help build our future STEM warriors.”

The FMA plans to continue Career Chats throughout the school year with additional presentations at UMBC, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Maryland Global Campus.
