The Teacher Externship Program is an exciting opportunity for educators to gain hands-on experience in industry settings. By participating, teachers can bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, enhancing their instructional practices and providing students with up-to-date industry insights.
Program Dates: June 15, 2026 – August 14, 2026
Time Commitment: 150 hours (minimum requirement)
Stipend: $7,500 (paid upon completion of program requirements)
Participants will collaborate with industry professionals, develop new skills, and bring back valuable knowledge to their students. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing externs to coordinate schedules that work best for them and their host companies.
Applications for the 2026 Teacher Externship Program have been extended to Friday, March 20.

What are the application requirements for the Teacher Externship Program?
The Teacher Externship Program is open to all current Anne Arundel and Howard County high school teachers as well as current Anne Arundel and Howard County middle school STEM teachers. Preference will be given to applicants with STEM experience and applicants who teach STEM subjects.
Selected applicants will need to be available to interview with host companies between March 30 and April 17, 2026.
Can I apply for the 2026 Teacher Externship Program if I have participated previously?
While previous applicants are welcome to apply, preference will be given to applicants that did not participate in the 2025 Externship Program.
What are the dates for the Teacher Externship Program?
The Teacher Externship Program runs between June 15, 2025 and August 14, 2026. Exact start and end dates are flexible.
What is the expected time commitment for the Teacher Externship Program?
The expected time commitment for the Teacher Externship Program is 150 hours. Externs are free to exceed 150 hours, but the stipend will not increase.
What is the stipend for the Teacher Externship Program?
The stipend for the 2026 Teacher Externship Program is $7,500. Teacher Externs are expected to complete the full 150 hours to receive the stipend. You will need to complete a W-9 form.
What is the schedule for the Teacher Externship Program?
Teacher Externs and host companies should work together to find a schedule of at least 150 hours that works for both parties. There are no required hours per week.
Are there any deliverables expected at the conclusion of the program?
Teacher Externs will be asked to complete a brief evaluation at the conclusion of the program so that we can improve the program for future years. We also ask that you take photos of the extern on the job and send them to the Fort Meade Alliance. The photos may be used in marketing materials.
