Students experiment with Ozobots with Lockheed Martin.
The Fort Meade Alliance held its annual Howard County Tech Mania event on December 5th, bringing together more than 100 students from Howard and Carroll County for a day of interactive STEM-related demonstrations with FMA member companies. The event, hosted by FMA Patriot Partner Howard Community College, exposed students to the wide range of high-demand career paths available in the Fort Meade region.
Students from Century High School, Hammond High School, Long Reach High School, Oakland Mills High School, and the HCPSS Applications and Research Lab explored robotics with Lockheed Martin, learned how AI can catch hackers with Vectra AI, dove into the world of cybersecurity with Learning Undefeated and Northrup Grumman, learned about knowledge graphs with RealmOne, and explored the intersection of design and technology with ADG Creative.

Students work to solve clues to unlock a lock box using knowledge graphs with RealmOne.
“My sophomores in the Early College Cybersecurity Program, which represents 10 out of 13 Howard County High Schools, truly enjoyed their experience at Tech Mania,” said Kristen McManus, Cybersecurity Cohort Teacher and Student Success Liaison at Applications and Research Laboratory. “The engaging activities, hosted by various companies in the industry, provided our students with the opportunity to learn about the tech space in a fun, supportive, and hands-on environment. Experiences like Tech Mania truly help bridge classroom learning with real-world industry exposure.”
Thank you to Howard Community College for hosting, and to all the presenters who invested their time and expertise to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.
