2021 Summer Internship Season

Summer is officially here and with it comes the season of internships! Each year, the Fort Meade Alliance works in partnership with three local community colleges and the California-based workforce development non-profit Growth Sector to provide students paid opportunities that help develop their professional skills through a program called STEM Core.

This summer’s STEM Core students are currently fulfilling internships with NASA Goddard, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, University of Maryland – College Park, and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, having also considered positions with PCI, a Big Bear.ai Company, M.C. Dean, FedData, Tower Federal Credit Union and Leidos.

STEM Core is a highly successful program that FMA brought from Northern California to the region. The STEM Core model provides an accelerated math curriculum to Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Howard County Community College students. The program educates students beginning with remedial math and accelerates their learning to pre-calculus over the course of 4 semesters.

The summer internship is a vital component of the STEM Core between the first and second year of the program and is critical to the FMA’s efforts to build a workforce pipeline for government agencies and industry. The FMA is dedicated to broadening the pool of STEM candidates for the employers in our region and we are committed to placing as many of the potential candidates in internships as we can.
