Women in STEM inspire students

Last month, 75 students from South River and North County High Schools heard from impressive female industry leaders during panel discussions designed to inspire and connect the next generation of female leaders in the industry.

The students learned about the importance of breaking barriers, overcoming discrimination in the workplace, and embracing the confidence to excel in STEM fields. The panels emphasized how women in STEM can overcome challenges and serve as powerful role models inspiring the next generation to push boundaries and pursue their passions.

This initiative, introduced last year, provides students with an invaluable opportunity to hear from accomplished women in STEM fields, engage in an open forum, and network with professionals who have paved the way for future innovators.

South River High School STEM Magnet Site Coordinator Marcy Pautsch and Panelists Linh Nguyen, Logan Thompson, Virginia Snakenberg, and Kathy Daumer with FMA Education & Workforce Manager Allison Murray.

“It’s life changing for all involved to connect our high school students in active conversation with the best of our community’s women technologists,” Doreen Harwood, FMA Education & Workforce Chair. “We hope to ignite curiosity and empower young women to pursue their dreams in these dynamic fields.”

The panels included: Shana Cosgrove, Nyla Technology Solutions; Kathy Daumer, RealmOne; Tyler Evangelista, US Space Force; Linh Nguyen, PLEX Solutions, LLC; Virginia Snakenberg, Vincia Consulting, Kim Stanbro, MasterPeace Solutions and Logan Thompson, BigBear.ai.

The final Women in STEM panel for this school year will take place later this month at Glen Burnie High School.
