Serving up connection, resources and support

Family Cooking Classes

Back by popular demand, the Fort Meade Alliance has partnered with Healthy Little Cooks to bring back Family Cooking Classes following a short summer break.

In September, 15 Fort Meade families gathered to prepare a three-course meal together. The theme of the evening was family connection and mental wellness. Participants learned the importance of communication and working together, all while making a delicious meal.

A huge thank you to Nexxis Solutions for sponsoring the Family Cooking Classes and supporting the Fort Meade community.

Meal in a Mug

With just a mug, a microwave, and a handful of healthy ingredients, service members at Fort Meade are continuing to learn how to whip up nutritious, cost-effective meals for themselves.

The FMA has partnered with various groups on the installation including Navigating Operational Wellness (NOW), Defense Information School (DINFOS), and Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) to deliver the program.  Since January, 124 service members have participated in Meal in a Mug classes, with many more sessions on the horizon as the program continues to grow.

Community Outreach Efforts

The FMA has been busy connecting with the Fort Meade community through recent outreach events.

At the 2nd Annual Fort Meade DFMWR Child & Youth Services Back-to-School Resource Fair, the FMA joined 54 community organizations to prepare students to “Shoot for the Moon” this school year. The more than 1,000 attendees were given an astronaut passport booklet which was stamped at resource tables they landed at. Students also participated in engaging activities, games, and crafts. Five lucky raffle winners received Target gift cards, courtesy of the FMA.

Shortly after, the FMA partnered with the Fleet and Family Support Center to provide resiliency resources at the Military Spouse Appreciation Career, Education, and Resource Expo, held at McGill Training Center. The event connected military spouses with workshops, networking opportunities, and career readiness tools to strengthen and support their professional growth.
