Dinner, dessert & mocktails

The FMA has cooked up a twist on one of its popular initiatives.

On February 25, the FMA Family Cooking Class Program expanded to its first adults-only cooking class for attendees ages 18 and older.  The class, in partnership with Healthy Little Cooks and sponsored by Nexxis Solutions, included a healthy vegetable pasta dinner and cinnamon popcorn dessert, plus a mocktail competition.

Attendees included solo spouses, couples on a date night, single service members, and parents with their adult children. The seven mocktail teams, consisting of a mix of participants, created an opportunity for everyone to connect. Team members had to strategize and shop from the mocktail ingredient tables to bring out their inner mixologists. The mocktails were scored by two volunteer judges based on presentation, taste, originality, name, and health benefits, with extra points awarded for healthier ingredients like beet juice.

The winning team was a group of five named “Everything But The Kitchen Sink” with their “Berry Refreshing” mocktail. First-place winners received glass boba cups and Food Lion gift cards.
